It's amazing
how much discussion four columns can generate. Kevin Craft,
the designer of Dan and Jennifer Wright's South Shore
home said a lot of time was spent discussing how to design
around the pillars.
But a
beautiful solution was found.
"The
kitchen is a large open area, but we did not have much wall
space to work with," said Craft, who manages Craft's
Custom Kitchens in Portsmouth, Ohio. "Because of this,
I designed two islands plus a large peninsula."
With that
problem solved,
a new obstacle arose.
"The
greatest challenge was deciding how the peninsula and one
island would 'interact' with these columns," said Craft,
"In the end, we decided to stop the peninsula countertop
just short of one column. The eating island is shaped so that
it fits in between the other columns and still allows walking
space between the cabinets and the columns."
The result
is an elegantly arranged kitchen with mocha-on-cherry cabinets
with full-overlay door styles from Mouser Custom Cabinetry.
With all
challenges met, Craft said the Wrights now have the much-needed
counter space and open eating areas they initially desired
in their kitchen remodel.
